Digital Rights Management And Digital Music

Digital Rights Management is the control of the usage of certain digital material such as music and games. It is a way to govern people’s access to copyrighted material as to protect the owners of such material. The term also describes any type of technology that was created in order to stop, manage, or slow down the act of piracy which is stealing digital material. Piracy was a huge problem with music as sites were making music available for download and making money off of this music that was not being shared with or given to the artists that created it.Get more information here. http://hackstips.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/be-a-proud-copyright-owner/
Digital Rights Management was put into effect because copyright owners were being infringed upon and not making profits from their music. At this time any unauthorized downloading or usage of copyrighted material is illegal. Sentences for violating these laws include both high fines and jail time. These laws have slowed down activities for the most part but the internet is such a huge place that it is hard to catch everyone. Not only that but there are literally thousands of websites that offer music so it would be impossible to stop every single illegal download. It’s an imperfect system.
